Hijacked

My writing has been hijacked by my research.

It was proceeding well. But now I have three Hong Kong bags full of Marjorie's letters to sort through.

I did make a start see here, but there are hundreds of poems, letters, lists — it's overwhelming and I probably need some one to help me go through them. I did have an offer but didn't take it up.

Then I stopped..

See the bowl next to the photo — empty not full.

That was a few months ago. How time flies. Now I must start again, no excuses.

See the bowl of marbles standing by. If one marble represents a piece of writing, then each day I can place a marble in the empty bowl.

I hearby vow to write a post every day on this blog. Yes, every day, well, let's say at least 5 days per week (writers need time off too!) until I finish. That's excluding the time I will be in Japan in November leading a group of writers along Basho's haiku trail.

Ok, good, so today I'm regrouping, getting my scrap books out, having a look through, picking up my hardcopy draft, holding it in my hands, feeling its weight, smelling the ink on the pages.

Pulling my digital draft up on the screen, scrolling through, noticing where I left off, where I got stuck. Making a new folder to bring in the new pieces I will be writing on the blog.

Getting out a big piece of paper and coloured pens, making a map of how far I've come and where I need to go next.

Making a plan, setting goals, slotting in writing time in my diary.

Am I really going to block out writing time in my diary?  I'm not that kind of writer — I never know what time I will start what time I will finish. If I do set a time you can be sure I will rebel against it. It's The Write When You Can Method for me. It requires making a vow or pact to write when ever you get a spare moment in your day...

A marble a day...
